Our Story
We won't recount all 6 years, but we will most certainly share the worthy details that culminate in us marching (or should we skip?) down the aisle in August.
Long ago but not so very far away, Lauren & Michael were finishing up their senior year at Union College. Sure, they may have known of each other since freshman year, but they remained friends peripherally; there was a toga party or two attended simultaneously and Lauren managed to snag away from Michael's fraternity the lease for a highly coveted off campus house. During their annual 5 week long winter break between Thanksgiving and New Years, the universe joined forces with a very wise and enabling friend, and suddenly Lauren & Michael were being set-up. With some encouragement, Lauren's email proposition went a little something like, "At the very least we should grab a cup of coffee when we get back to school!" to which Michael replied, "Sure! But I don't like coffee." Luckily Michael & Lauren saw past this drastic difference in how they viewed the world. Their first Valentine's Day was cute though slightly awkward: what do you get somebody you've only been dating for two weeks? Michael wisely chose to get Lauren three pairs of socks, and Lauren bought Michael a three pound block of cheese. That, our friends, is how it all started.
The Journey thereafter:
After graduating from college, Michael and Lauren embarked on a cross-country road trip, during which they managed to log 9,000 driving miles. While on the open road Michael and Lauren contemplated spending their remaining gas money on first month's rent in Flagstaff or Durango or Boulder. Eight National Parks and many a friend's couches later, they returned to the east coast for a few months only to then move to Oregon, site unseen. For the next 11 months Lauren and Michael set up shop in the old warehouse district of Portland. Daily they smelled the sweet yet putrid wafts of stewing hops from the microbrewery adjacent to their apartment. Weekly they relished the company of rediscovered cousins, and by week end they were off exploring, playing in the wilderness of Washington and on the coast, and tasting and even drinking their way through the culinary heaven that is PDX. When Lauren was offered an amazing job at Global Routes in Northampton, Massachusetts in 2005 they quickly packed up their books, sold their furniture, and hauled back east. Soon thereafter Michael began working for Building Green, and the stage was set to make Massachusetts home. Indeed they discovered it is possible to love, feel connected to and passionate about where you live and work. While in Northampton, these two moved four times in as many years; they have written the prologue to their memoir-come-How-To entitled "A 20-Something's Guide to Moving. A Lot". They eventually settled, and life in Northampton was very generous to them. As of January 2010, Lauren & Michael migrated northward to make Waterbury, Vermont home. If you are ever driving by, look for the cutest house downtown that's a stone's throw from the local brewery and the Cabot Cheese distribution center. Some things never change.
